Gala Award Banquet & Ball. 2008 Date and Time: Saturday evening, August 9, 2008 at the Sheraton Howard Rock Ballroom. The focus of this gala event is to recognize an outstanding member and or outstanding project of an ethnic community who has continuously made significant contributions to their communities through unpaid volunteer efforts. Each ethnic community has worked hard to establish themselves in our community to be accepted and respected. The ethnic diversity we have in Anchorage is one of our greatest attributes. Bridge Builders would like to highlight this strength at our Gala by awarding an outstanding member and or an outstanding project of your community an "Excellence in Community Service Award". Join us for this event by calling 277-1882 for additional information. (Gala Ticket Information) (Honoree Nomination Form)

July 4th Parade, Celebrating 50 Years of Alaskan Statehood. (Photos) Each year Anchorage sponsors a July 4th Parade. In 2000 the parade committee came to Bridge Builders to ask our help in involving the ethnic communities. Bridge Builders organized over 200 marchers from many cultures and encouraged the creation of numerous floats celebrating America's birthday. Every year since, Bridge Builders and ethnic floats have become a major element in the parade. We will march again this year celebrating the contributions our ethnic communities have made over the past 50 years. Please walk with us or create your community's float. Call 277-1882 for details. The International Potluck. 2008 Date and Time: Usually the first Saturday in November. Date and location to be confirmed. (Photos) Every year the annual international potluck is a fun and meaningful event. This is one of the opportunities where members get paired with others from diverse cultures and new understanding and friendships begin. Everyone brings a dish of food from their culture to share. The pairing is done by a team of volunteers as the members arrive. During dinner each table establishes where and when they will hold their next get-together. ("Get Together" Form)

Meet the World in Anchorage. 2008 Date and Time: Saturday, February 23, 2008, 10 am - 3 pm, Anchorage Museum of History and Art. (Photos) As part of the Fur Rendezvous celebration in February, Bridge Builders hosts an event to educate the public, especially Anchorage's families, about the different cultures that live here. The event takes place at a major venue, either the Anchorage Museum or the Egan Convention Center, on a Saturday afternoon. Over 30 different cultural booths are set up with displays from the individual cultures. People wearing native clothing and regalia staff the booths and greet people and explain the traditions of their cultures. Each booth has an activity, such as calligraphy demonstrations, a game, or origamiz (paper folding). When people arrive they are given a passport that has an entry that explains customs and traditions from each culture. As the visitors stop by each table, that entry in the passport is stamped with a symbol from that culture. Throughout the day ethnic entertainment is featured.
